Hagedorn acquires the site of the aerated concrete plant in Rheinau

There is a new prospect for the Xella Germany production site in Rheinau-Freistett. A new commercial area is to be developed on the site in the near future.

At the end of the year, production at the aerated concrete plant in the Baden-Württemberg town of Rheinau will be discontinued. In December 2023, Xella Germany announced that the plant in the Freistett district would be permanently closed. The Hagedorn Group has now acquired the property so that the site on the French border does not remain unused for long and the economy can return to the more than 82,000 square metres of space. The aim of the Gütersloh-based family business is to make the area ready for construction again and prepare it for industrial reuse.

‘We are reactivating the former Xella site by incorporating the Hagedorn process chain, so that a modern commercial site in an optimal location can be created here in the near future,’ says Alexander Emde, head of project development at Hagedorn Revital GmbH, a Hagedorn Group company.
Hagedorn's demolition team will begin dismantling the buildings at the beginning of 2025. The work will take around nine months to complete. The project in Rheinau is Hagedorn's second revitalisation project in Baden-Württemberg to date.

Concrete plans for subsequent use will be announced at a later date; talks with the city are already underway. Oliver Rastetter, mayor of the city of Rheinau, hopes for a sustainable use of the site. He emphasises that the city administration is in constructive dialogue with the Hagedorn company in this regard.
