FAQ CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT GUIDE
WHAT EXACTLY ARE MY TASKS AND WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?
Your job as a construction equipment operator is to operate and control various construction vehicles and machines. These include excavators, milling machines, cranes, crawlers, rollers and concrete mixers. There is a wide range of machines to choose from and you have a firm grip on every single one of them. You use the machines to transport building materials, dig trenches, demolish buildings or help with their construction.
HOW DOES THE TRAINING PROGRAMME WORK AND DO I HAVE A CONTACT PERSON?
Anyone starting their training at Hagedorn is accompanied and supported at all times by experienced trainers and foremen. Dominic Höfel is our trainer in the demolition department.
The practical phases alternate with assignments at the vocational school in Gelsenkirchen and the training centre in Oberhausen. But even on the construction site, every assignment and every task is different and you learn something new every day.
WHAT ARE MY CHANCES AFTER THE APPRENTICESHIP?
Our aim is to take on our trainees after they have completed their training. After that, there are virtually no limits when it comes to further training. You can become a master craftsman, but also complete further training to become a foreman and foreman. There is also the option of starting a degree programme after your apprenticeship. We will support you on whatever path you choose to take.
HOW OFTEN WILL I BE DEPLOYED ON A CONSTRUCTION SITE?
At Hagedorn, we have our own trainee construction sites. This means that our trainees can operate our machines independently at an early stage and are involved in everyday life on the construction site. Depending on where the construction site is at the time, you may also go to assembly. This means that you will spend the night near the construction site from Monday to Friday. Of course, you will also have to learn the theoretical part at vocational school and the training centre during your apprenticeship. However, this part will decrease towards the end of the apprenticeship and the assignments on the construction sites will increase.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME AS AN APPRENTICE?
In addition to practical training at the ABZ, trainees naturally also attend vocational school. To be able to keep up here, you will need at least a secondary school leaving certificate, a good grounding in maths and an understanding of physics. Technology is also very important in this profession, as you will sometimes have to carry out minor repair work independently on the construction site.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO DO AN INTERNSHIP?
We welcome anyone who is interested in becoming a construction equipment operator and are happy to offer you the opportunity to complete a student or voluntary internship with us. Apply directly using the form on our training page.
